What I've Done When I Didn't Feel Beautiful For Lack Of Light

Just a short three to four years ago my son introduced me to anime, before that I'd never considered watching it.

My thoughts about anime were that they were different versions of Digimon and Pokemon, so, just some poorly drawn kids and even more poorly drawn creatures screaming at each other and getting into ridiculous card fights. I soon learned watching shows with him like Pysco-Pass, Sword Art Online, Attack On Titan and Death Note that the artwork in anime was different in that the animators in Japan have their own style that's different from the western and American animation I was familiar with. I soon found out that that difference began to look better in my eyes. While watching animation that was "anime", I was always aware I was watching artwork that wanted to be nothing beyond artwork, while I could clearly see real worlds and characters become remarkably vivid and very much alive. I also became aware of how the storytelling of anime made it something more than a kid might watch. The stories could be extremely thought out and complex, as in Death Note, or draw you into a very creative action/ drama, as in Attack On Titan.

If you just need to escape things for a while, you could watch any of the anime titles I've shared with you. If you're in a particularly dark mood and notice very little beauty, I'd suggest you didn't watch any of them. Instead, I'd suggest you watch "Laid Back Camp"! I recently wrote a review on it. It's just a cute, warm, happy story that has the ability to warm your insides, make you feel happy and just smile! Smiles I've found, allow me to notice more light, and the more light I see the more beauty I notice. You can watch it for free on crunchyroll by clicking here. BTW, here's the review I did -

Just finished watching Laid-Back Camp, loved it! It's a Slice of Life Comedy that's

awesome. Most people who've reviewed it always say it's about cute girls being cute while loving camping, I say it's just fun and wholesome. Friends are important in this little show, friends that all love camping. Well, I guess the main character we're introduced to prefers solo-camping while she'll learn camping with friends brings along with it some warm beauty (whenever we see her on her own we always hear her inner thoughts which are mostly stoic while being soft and, okay, "cute"). When I say it's wholesome I mean it's sweet, endearing, warm, light and breezy. It's full of happiness and friends which is awesome in this anime. While a small part of the show takes place at the girls' school in The Outdoor Activities Club, most of the show focuses on the girls love of camping and camping during the very cold winter months, either in a group or solo, usually near Mt. Fuji. This is awesome as the animation and story's narrative actually make you feel you're outside in nature, enjoying the sights and sounds of the outdoors as you feel like you ought to be shivering from the cold right along with the girls! The sound is worked in the show so well you even feel all the noise the camping equipment makes is right next to you,

drawing you deeper into the story. They enjoy food, one of them more than they all, and you always hear them properly slurping their noodles. The occasional use of a narrator gives us little set-asides that are tutorials on camping equipment: like the different types of tents and sleeping bags, how to start fires, the use of camp stoves, etc, this also draws you into the show. Did I tell you you always feel like you're enjoying the crisp cold air during their winter camping trips, lol? GOT might have won us over in it's beginning with all its subversion of expectations, and "people die in real life" stuff, but it never hurt anyone to just stretch, sit back, relax, breathe, enjoy a warm campfire, smile and just be happy for a few minutes.
